Next up -Joey Logano
Joey Logano- Grace Period Is Over, Now Let's See What You're Made Of !
Anyone Who'll attempt to dismiss young buck Joey Logano's talent to establish a glorified career in the Sprint Cup Series is dead wrong. JoLo's got the swagger that's commonly associated with raw unpolished talent. In three full season on the Sprint Cup tour we've witnessed the many sides of JoLo. A question we must ask ourselves as NASCAR fans is how have we measured Joey's talent thus far? Do we see him as the overly hyped up "Next Jeff Gordon carbon copy" discoverd by Mark Martin, who's arrival on the Sprint Cup tour was met with great anticipation years before his debut in the fall of 2008. Do we see him as the skinny kid from Connecticut who replaced the lengendary Tony Stewart in the #20 Home Depot ride? or do we criticize him for lack of seat time in the Nationwide Series before joining the Cup ranks? For whatever reason Joey's been the object of criticism for the last three years within the motorsports community. Folks let's remember Joey's only 21 yrs of age. It's not as if his biological clock is ticking Joey's still a pup in a sport dominated by veteran drivers. Undoubtedly High expectaions bestowed upon this youngster may ultimately lead to the demise of his career. Let's hope that's not the case because it's hard not to like the young man from Middletown Connecticut. He personifies everything that is right with NASCAR's youth movement heck his nickname is sliced bread for pete's sake. I do agree with some critics that Logano should have spent a few years among the Nationwide ranks before moving to the cup series. Raw unpolished talent like Logano's must be nurtured to reach full potential. It's not as if Joey had a say in whether or not he wanted to move into the cup ranks immediately. No doubt this was a JGR executive decision to promote the rising star into the jungle that is the Sprint Cup series. Did they really think he would live up to the media hype ? God I hope not because it's damn near impossible to compare a 19 year old rookie to some of the sports greatest talents of all time just ask Casey Atwood ? Joey will finally shed the stigma of that kid who replaced Tony Stewart(2012) this season. I read recently on NASCAR scene daily Logano feels that 2012 will be his year to prove he blongs in the #20 car, and He also feels like the team is now his own instead of Stewart's now that Greg Zipadelli is gone. If Joey finds that focus to succeed from deep within he could very well change the way the media see's him. He could go from sliced bread into a proverbial winner, but if he continues to struggle this season and beyond he could join that dubious club of talented youngins who got a chance to bat in the big leagues, but stuck out miserably.
