In the last 3 weeks we?ve gone from whine country to wine country back to whine country. There seems to be a lot of whining going around about tandem racing ? from inside and outside the car. I suppose once or twice a year might be OK, but we?re looking at 4 times a year. Of course, as long a the last few minutes of a race provide thrills, we?ll have status quo. Maybe the coming fuel injection racing will neutralize the problem.

That won?t solve this problem: time of race ? 2:39:53. Heck, even Sonoma was longer than the last 2 oval races. Continue combining short races with Noah?s rules and Nascar will have bigger problems than they have now.

I almost featured Trevor Bayne in the title of this blog (something to do with hero and coke zero), but it just didn?t feel right. If he never wins another race, his mark on Nascar will remain indelible. Sorta like Mark Fidrych. He brought joy and hope to millions, if only for a short time.

In closing, nice fireworks show after the race and Martina sure got around this weekend.

7.4.77: 3 women started the Firecracker 400. None of them finished last.

Just noticed the 400 was held on July 4 every year from 1963 through 1987.

If Ned were in the booth we?d know what?s up with Michael McSwain.
