This week Activision, a video game producer announced their plan to create and release a NASCAR video game for multiple consoles in February 2011. For some, this is a big relief because of the lack of credible NASCAR games in the past. This past year EA Sports gave up on creating a respectable NASCAR game and gave up the rights to NASCAR. I for one, am totally excited because a great NASCAR video game can really help create buzz around the sport. This can bring viewers closer to the sport than they could ever imagine. This video game will feature many new concepts that haven't been done before. If you are interested, you can read more about the video game at this link:
The most exciting thing in my opinion, is the rivalries that can go on between drivers and the ability to race online with 16 players.
I'm not to sure how many readers at this site have played NASCAR games in the past, but most of them were really unrealistic and added no positives to the sport. If this game can really make NASCAR look cool and entertaining, NASCAR could attract fans that wouldn't be attracted if not for the video game.
This week on NASCAR Raceday (October 3rd), they will be playing a trailer to give the viewers some insight in what the game looks like.
The creation of this game got me thinking what were my favorite NASCAR and racing games of all-time. There have been some good ones, but here are my favorites: All of my favorites were basically from 03-04 when I was 13 but I still like to play video games once in a while.
NASCAR Thunder 2003 and 2004--So realistic, really made me think I was a driver/owner
NASCAR Dirt To Daytona--this game is so hard to find these days...My favorite part was the ability to go from dirt racing to cup racing, that was cool.
F1 2002--My favorite F1 game, only weird thing was I could dominate with every team except for Minardi.
Gran Turismo 3- Every Turismo game has been good, but this was my favorite.
So what are your favorites? What NASCAR game did you enjoy the most? What makes a good racing game? Are you excited about someone other than EA Sports creating a NASCAR video game?
