Saturday night's race at Bristol provided it's share of NASCAR history, but that race also put Clint Bowyer in the driver's seat in his quest to lock up that final Chase spot(12th). Boy how a year changes everything less than 2 weeks ago Mark Martin looked to have the edge over Bowyer. Both are extremly talented racers, but after Martin's 2009 dream season it's fair to say how the mighty have fallen. Martin's 2010 has been anything ,but productive now he faces missing the Chase for the Cup for the First time in his legendary career ( Martin has made the chase in every season he was eligible to qualify for the final 10 race chase) .
Who is to blame Martin's aging career ? Hendrick's lack of commitment when it comes to giving the legend what he needs to win the title? The distraction of where would Martin drive next season? Would Kahne replace him before 2012 ? What ever the reason Martin will miss what could be his final chance to become a NASCAR champion. That the sad part of this story when it comes to the final spot in this year's chase. For Bowyer this is a great opportunity to have a shot at winning that title he narrowly missed afew years back. Hey and lets not count out this year comeback driver of the year Jamie Mac who mathematically remains in the chase hunt. Bottom line is the drama surrounding the cut off race at Richmond will not be present this year, but stranger things have happened.
