Its a big weekend for Canada as the Nation celebrates its 143rd birthday with some racing action!
After a two week layoff the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series is back in action for its third race of the season and first in the province of Quebec with the National 250 from the Autodrome St.Eustache in what is the only oval track race in Quebec his season. JR Fitzpatrick fresh from his 7th place run in the Nationwide race at Road America two weeks ago comes into the race with a 25 point lead over DJ Kennington with Jeff Lapcevich close behind in third. When it comes to the three previous Canadian Tire Series events at St.Eustache the dominant driver has been Scott Steckly. Steckly won the series first visit to the track in July 2008 and followed it up with winning again in July 2009. The only other driver too win at St.Eustache is Dave Whitlock who took the checkers in May 2009, he however is now retired which means in this weekends starting field Steckly is the only winner at this track. Steckly has been somewhat quiet since winning the 2008 title but should be poised to return to championship form.
One big variable in this weekends race however is Andrew Ranger. Ranger is not running a full Canadian Tire Series schedule this year focusing most of his time on the NASCAR K&N Pro East Series, he is also the most recent winner in the K&N Pro West Series taking the checkers at Infenion Raceway two weeks ago. Ranger is attempting the double dip on Saturday. First he will run in the K&N East Series race at Lime Rock Park before attempting to get to St.Eustache for the Canadian Tire Series event at 8PM. If Ranger can make the event he will be a strong contender for the victory.
My Top 5 Picks
1. #22 Scott Steckly
2. #17 DJ Kennington
3. #27 Andrew Ranger
4. #84 JR Fitzpatrick
5. #11 John Gaunt
I want you hear from you, who are your top 5 picks for this weekends National 250 at St.Eustache?
